Ella and Miles. | Milwaukee Child and Infant Photographer.

Tonight our friends Steve and Thea stopped by and I had an opportunity to take a few quick shots of their adorable kids Ella and Miles.

Enjoy!

Ice Ice....Baby. | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer.

"Yo VIP....Let's kick it"
- Vanilla Ice

Amy and Ryan's whole wedding day was a study in multi-faceted interests and talents. It kicked off at the absolutely GORGEOUS Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Milwaukee. You have to check this place out, it is just stunning...and the Crucifix is quite possibly one of the most amazing and interesting I've seen.

From the ceremony the bridal party and I ventured on to Red Arrow Park where Amy, Ryan, and the group laced up their skates and headed on to the ice. Ryan is a hockey player and his skills on the ice were apparent. Amy was no slouch on skates either. I, on the other hand, just wore my shoes on the ice. Probably against some Red Arrow Park rule, I'm sure....but I'm positive neither Amy nor Ryan would have been overly impressed with my shots had I been shooting on skates!

We hit up the Calatrava as well as Third Ward. I have to say, I absolutely love a relaxed, "up for anything" bridal party. No rushing, very open to suggestions, and throwing in a few of their own made for some really cool pictures.

The reception was held at The Astor Hotel and the ice theme definitely carried over, from the monogrammed ice luge for martinis to the little icicle touches on their cake.

Amy and Ryan's reception was an absolute blast. Their dinner music was provided by local impersonator Downtown Harrison who was just fabulous (and a super-nice guy! He's going to be on America's Got Talent if you want to check it out!). After dinner, guest were treated to the live act Chapter 2. They were great as well...and they had LASERS. It was awesome!

But the best part of the night had to be when the groom picked up the guitar himself and he and two of his groomsmen played a few songs. They were really wonderful, and it was a great way to end the night.

Amy and Ryan, I had a great time capturing your event. Enjoy your sneak peek and enjoy your honeymoon!!!

Men in Skates.

How cool is Amy? A bride in skates....you have to love it!

I've been wanting to set up a shot like this for some time. Are you ready to play the Feud?!
Quick tip: rings stick to ice. Just an FYI.

Ryan does his thing (and yes, he does look EXACTLY like Seth Rogan. I'm sure he's heard that a few times!)

Friday Fractured Thought | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer.

So, it's that time again. Friday....time for me to write about everything and nothing at all. On the edge of your seats yet? Oh yeah....me too!

* I have to give a nice shout out to a new-ish Milwaukee based wedding related blog called The City Bride Blog. I kind of wish something like this was around and on my radar when I was getting married. Lot's of great tips, etc. I especially loved the recent "Don't Leave Us Hangin'" entry about people you meet with and then never hear from again! Check it out, it's good times.

* I have a wedding tomorrow here in Milwaukee that will prove to be cold but probably INSANELY beautiful....I'm really looking forward to it. It's my last one until March, so I'm pretty excited to shoot.

* About this time last year....and the year before...I was gearing up to take our sorta-annual trip to Cancun. We're not going this year. I'm kind of bummed about that. I could use some beach in my life right now.

* My husband has decided he's going to help me cook. Now, for anyone who knows me...I am a terrible cook. Awful. Probably the worst ever. I make a mean bowl of cereal, and that's about where it ends. Tonight? I'm making Cornish Game Hens! We'll see.......if I end up giving my poor hubby food poisoning you'll be the first to know.

* I want to give a little push to all the moms and dad and kiddos out there. Even though it's ridiculously cold outside, as is the case with Wisconsin winters, you can STILL have a great family portrait sitting. I've done plenty in the winter. Don't be chicken! Email me and let's set something up. I'm running a discount special right now and I'd hate to see it get passed by.

* I hate to be a vote grubber...but, well...I am. Wisconsin Bride is having their annual readers poll for wedding professionals. Voting closes March 1, 2010. Check it out and vote for Type A if you'd like. I'd appreciate it! Vote here!

* My kid has also developed a strange line of imaginary friends: Tessy and Helmut (or could be "Helmet"...as in Lord Helmet...who knows). I've heard this is a sign of intelligence. Or creepiness. Either way.....

And, because I need a place to put all the pictures I shoot of my kid....here you go. That head used to be attached to a member of the Lollipop Guild. Poor munchkin.

Kindred Spirits II | Wisconsin Hospice Photography.

Today I had a Kindred Spirits Hospice sitting with a lovely gentleman who wanted some pictures with his favorite buddies: his pets. There were a bevy of cats and a few dogs available for the shoot and each one had his or her own story and connection to the man. It was lovely to hear about how the cats have comforted him, laid with him in his bed, and made each day happier with their calming presence.

If you are interested in a free of charge sitting for hospice patients and their families, email me at typeaimages@gmail.com or contact your Beloit Regional Hospice representative.

This cat is his favorite friend.

Friday Fractured Thoughts. | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer

I used to do this thing, on my MySpace blog of all places (I'll pause for you to laugh...MySpace!?! Remember that?!) called "Fractured Thoughts"...where I basically just wrote out what was going on in my neck of the woods. Seems to be a popular blog focus for quite a few photographers: Miscellaneous Mondays, Whatever Wednesdays.....even Jessica Claire just started her own version so seems like I'm a bit slow to jump on this opportunity to "connect" with my readers. That, or I am a major copy-cat....whatever works!

But, for what it's worth...enjoy!

* As you can see, I revamped the site...and the blog. It's all part of my New Year's semi-resolution to really stick to who am I, what I know, and reflect that in my business and in life.

* I just reserved my spot at a workshop in Chicago in a few weeks. I'm pretty jazzed about it. It's not shooting related, it's business related...but it will be my first workshop. I'm hoping I come away with some new ideas and a fresh outlook.

* The Kindred Spirits Hospice Photography program is doing VERY well. I have another shoot for this tomorrow and Beloit Regional Hospice did a very nice write-up about the program and me in their most recent newsletter. If you know someone who is under hospice care and would be interested in taking advantage of this free program, let me know.

* The Hubster and I received tickets for Cinematic Titanic in February. I am totally jazzed. It's basically Mystery Science Theatre 3000 LIVE. I've just revealed my inner geekdom to the world.

* Speaking of concerts/shows/and entertainment, we also have tickets to Disney Princesses on Ice. Should be.....interesting!

* I have nothing much to add about the whole Leno/Conan thing....except that anyone who thinks Jay Leno is the least bit funny gets a big stinky side-eye from me.

* The Top 20 contest is going well and the response has been amazing! Keep voting!!

* Speaking of voting, fellow photographers probably heard about all the hub-bub surrounding the PDN's list of Most Influential Photographers. Basically, there was a lot of whining and teeth gnashing over the top 30 winners...basically because the voting system was pretty flawed. You could vote multiple times for the same person...over and over. So, well known photographer Becker decided he was going to do a little experiment and see how "influential" social networking can be. And...it worked. And....he won. And....people are being jerky about it. But, you know my thoughts on the whole deal? The list was for "INFLUENTIAL" photographers. Not "the best" or "most creative" or "most technically skilled" (not that Becker is not technically skilled, he's an amazing photographer). Becker proved that he was pretty darn influential...by influencing thousands of votes on his behalf via social network marketing.

I say bravo. We're a community, and we should support one another. Becker is one hell of a crafty marketer, but he also is a very sharing person who has influenced thousands to "pay it forward" in terms of skill and information. He's improved the industry in that respect. Jealousy and sour grapes is not a good look on anyone. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.....

Stay tuned every Friday for more "deep thoughts"....concerning probably things like what I had for breakfast or Betty's latest adventures. You know you want to know!

CH..CH..CH..Changes. | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer.

So, you may noticed things are bit different around here! After living with my very dark...very damask..very....goth-esque blog and site for quite some time, I finally decided it had jumped the shark and I was sick of it. It didn't say anything about me as a photographer or how I see the world...which is not so dark and dreary and serious.

So, I spent the day tweaking (and wrestling with HTML and Blogger....I shake my fist at you!) and I am quite happy with the changes. Bright, colorful...speaks to my love of whimsy and vintage anything I think.

And doesn't make me want to break out the Marilyn Manson CDs.

Feel free to let me know what you think (unless you hate it...in which case feel free not to let me know, because I am NOT editing the margins on this thing again!)

And just to prove that I didn't spend the entire day with my computer...here is Betty..giving me the super-sad puppy eyes.

TOP 20 OF 2009 | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer

Ok, this was hard. I decided to do a Top 20 Wedding Shots of 2009 contest and thought it would be pretty simple to pull out some of my favorites. Boy was I wrong. I think I grossly underestimated how many pictures I took this year, how many beautiful weddings I attended, and how many fabulous couples I had! It was tough.

But, here they are....20 days into January but I did it! Better late than never I suppose.

I enlisted the help of my dear husband to go through about 120 or so that I narrowed down and then together we culled that down to 20 besties.

What I need you to do, dear readers, is to leave a comment and vote for your favorite image. The image numbers are above the picture to the left. I will keep the voting open until January 31. The image that gets the most votes wins a free 8x10 print for the couple.

First a few guidelines:
* These weddings are from 2009. I did a New Years Eve wedding this year (Hi!) but that wedding will be included in the contest for next year (2010).

* If you can't choose just one (I know I couldn't...which is why I'm making you do it) feel free to vote for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice.

* I will keep people posted via Facebook and the blog to remind you to vote!

Enjoy and happy voting! Good luck to all the "finalists"!

Sisters and Rats: AKA A Fun Sunday. | Milwaukee Family Photographer.

Yes, that's right...I said RATS. Ok...I exaggerated a bit. One rat. Shirley, to be exact. Rats with names...just not right.

Today I met the beautiful sisters Grace and Kate at the Audubon Center for a sitting and was introduced to their resident vermin hostess Shirley. Now, I am not a rat person. At all. Grace and Kate were completely fearless though. Gotta give them credit. All I have to say is thank God for zoom lenses because I wasn't getting anywhere near Shirley the Rat.

Post-rat the shoot was lovely and Grace and Kate were great little models. The Audubon Center provided enough for them to look at, explore, and play with to keep them engaged and busy while I shot away.

Enjoy the sneak peek!
