Sunday Morning.

You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning.
- No Doubt

This morning I had the pleasure of a sitting with Charlie and his parents at the always beautiful Klode Park in Whitefish Bay.

The early morning sun had already become pretty bright by that time so we sought out shady spots for cheeky Charlie's pictures. He was a natural, giving a sly little smirk whenever the camera was pointed his way. Kind of reminds me of a kid you would see on the cover of Parents magazine or something.

It was a great morning for some pictures. I hope Charlie and his family enjoy their sneak peek!

Victorian Anything.

I am colorblind
Coffee black and egg white
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am taffy stuck and tongue tied
Stutter shook and uptight
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am fine
- Counting Crows

At one point, when I was a little girl, I wanted to be Amish. I had a slight obsession with turn of the century...well...anything, books...movies...and I figured becoming Amish was the closest thing to living that. Well...that or strive to get a job at Old World Wisconsin leading tours.

I quickly grew out of my romanticized outlook on travel-by-buggy and long skirts with aprons, but I never lost my love for Victorian and Edwardian...well...anything. I love Victorian era photography especially. Julia Margaret Cameron is one of my all-time favorite photographers.

So, when Nikki and Steve contacted me about their Victorian-themed wedding, I was completely jazzed to take it on. I was able to kind of stretch my aesthetic a bit and involve some of the washed-out colors, vintage toned black-and-whites, and blurred images that I love but tend to hold back on a bit sometimes. I cannot wait to start editing this bunch, it's bound to be fun!

Enjoy your sneak peek guys!

I had to leave this shot in full, un-messed-with color. The light was just too perfect.

Yessssssss!

Ben and Stephanie's engagement session had one theme: enthusiasm. Mostly because of Ben's response to each photo set up.

I would take the picture.
Say something to effect of "good" or "great".
And then I would hear it:
"Yessss!"

Like he had just won something.

Ben is obviously a supporter of good light and great captures, just like me : )

You have to admire enthusiasm like that!

We hit up Lake Park as well as a hidden little area in Mequon called Juniper Lane for Ben and Stephanie's engagement session today. Ben's overwhelming support for each picture as well as the fantastic light made it a great session.
Enjoy!

Something I love right up there with great light is great "straight outta camera" images like the one above. Images that don't have to be touched, they're just perfect as is. Look at that sky!

Mr. and Mrs. Efficient.

We'll follow the rainbow
Wherever the four winds blow
And there'll be a new day
Comin' your way
I'm gonna be here for you from now on
This you know somehow
You've been stretched to the limits but it's alright now
- Keith Urban

There are certain truths about weddings. They are hectic, high-energy, and are more than likely apt to run late. I've taken this issue into consideration with every wedding I've done because it's just par for the course.

Except with highly-efficient Sarah and Josh.

Not only did they NOT run late, they ran EARLY....an hour early most of the night. It was an unheard of situation but one that was kind of nice because we had time to fit in two photo sessions with the bride and groom, taking advantage of "magic hour" light. Plus, there was none of that "we're late!" stress.

Sarah and Josh held their ceremony at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, IL. A quaint little chapel that runs several weddings a Saturday. Talk about efficiency! Their reception was held at La Casa Grande, a venue in Beloit, my hometown.

Because my in-laws know Sarah personally, the wedding was a bit of a family affair. I did the photography, my husband Jon DJ'd the reception, and Betty got to attend her first wedding. She spent the evening chasing after the ring bearer. She's a bit boy crazy, that one.

All in all it was a highly efficient and fun night! I hope Sarah and Josh enjoy their sneak peek!

I did the bridal party shots at an abandoned gas station in Beloit. I'm so glad they were up for it because I was really itching to use it once I passed it on my way in to town.

At the end of a long night.
"Whoa-oh here she comes. Watch out boys, she'll chew you up. Whoa-oh here she comes....she's a man eater"
(That would be my kid)

Happy Anniversary to Me.

38 Families + 31 weddings (so far) + 16 kids + 11 infants + 15 engaged couples + 3 businesses + 1 senior = Type A Images 1st Official Year in Business!!

Today I celebrate many things: A whole bunch of pictures taken...a lot of people that I've met...and the one year anniversary of making Type A Images official.

It's been an awesome year, one I never could have expected and 100 times better than I ever could have asked for. The year went so fast and I attribute that to the amount of fun I've had.

I look forward to next year and years following growing Type A and meeting more people, taking more pictures, and creating more connections.

A year ago I was a girl with an idea....and I didn't really have a clue how to make it work. Now I've settled into a nice routine that I love. Sometimes I look around and wonder how I ever got so lucky.

I want to thank my family and friends for their support, especially my husband who has put up with countless nights of my ignoring him in favor of editing away in my office!

Here's to many more years of fun!

Summer Lovin'.

"Summer lovin, had me a blast"

- Summer Lovin'

Fresh purple flowers. Cute, short bridesmaids dresses and open-toed shoes. Baseball themed table markers and escort cards. The August date. Everything about Stephanie and Eric's wedding screamed "summer".

Except, that is...for the temperature.

It was a balmy 60-some degrees most of the day, turning colder as the night went on. However, that didn't seem to matter to the party inside. Spirits were high and love was all around.

I considered this my last wedding of the summer, lumping September weddings into the "fall" category. It was a great one to go out on: beautiful decor, fun couple, and lots of great touches.

I hope Stephanie and Eric enjoy their sneak peek!

Stephanie's beautiful rock. Color me jealous!

I absolutely LOVE this shot of Eric's grandfather. He reminds me of Martin Sheen.

Behind the couple was a fireplace. A fireplace that was ON. For an AUGUST wedding.

The Super Family.

So, today was funny. The Gosnell family and I had planned for a fun, outdoor romp in the park for their family pictures. Only to be met with rain this morning.

So, I suggested the Domes, being that I had used them many times before and knew it was a great rain-day solution.

I guess there is a first for everything. Today was the first time I got asked to pay the Domes' $50 "Photography" fee. Not to make this whole blog about this ridiculous fee...but $50 covers an HOUR. Not even the day. An HOUR. Shame, shame Milwaukee Park System. I guess I'll have to be a bit craftier....

Anywhoo....the Gosnell Family is adorable. Three active boys that I'm sure keep mom and dad on their toes. Despite the Parks Dept. mandated time crunch, I think we got in some great shots. I especially like the "ode to superheroes" at the end of the shoot. Great idea!

Enjoy your sneak peek!
